Trukai Industries Ltd, PNG’s largest manufacturer and supplier of rice has made a steady progress since 2015 to deliver PNG largest rainfed crop. The company announced in August 2017 that it was working with a local land group in the Markham valley to grow 500+ hectares of rainfed rice. Trukai Industries Ltd, Rice Development Manager Humphrey Saese, said the company has made significant progress and is in the process of establishing a long term lease of land for the expansion. Additional opportunities for the establishment of irrigated production are also being assessed.
